Rainy Day Ranch is located in beautiful central Texas 50 miles east of Austin and was established in 2001. Our mission is twofold:
- Provide top quality Akaushi influenced cattle to small and medium sized cattle operations.
- In 2019 we launched Rainy Day Ranch Beef to provide Texas State Inspected quality packaged beef to individuals.
In 2018 we made the decision to introduce Akaushi and Akaushi-influenced cattle into our herd to maximize hybrid vigor and provide access to premium cattle markets. Akaushi cattle are moderate in frame size and average 1,100 lbs. for mature females and 1,700 lbs. or greater for mature bulls. They prove to be efficient on both grain-finished and grass-finished programs
Akaushi beef naturally contains intense marbling. It is generally recognized that fat is responsible for the palatability of beef, but it is actually the monounsaturated fat that is responsible for the flavor. The marbling in Akaushi beef contains a much higher percentage of monounsaturated fat than any other beef in the United States. As a result, Akaushi beef has a rich buttery flavor as well as juiciness and tenderness throughout. Recent carcass data has shown that Akaushi cattle grade an average of 51% Prime and 47% choice.
